Forum theatre is a type of participatory theatre that was developed by Brazilian theatre practitioner Augusto Boal. In forum, the audience is invited to become active participants in the performance, rather than passive observers. This is achieved through a process of "spect-actors" or "spect-actresses" who are invited to step on stage, perform certain actions, and change the outcome of the play. The goal of forum theatre is to create a space where participants can explore and develop new strategies for addressing social and political issues.
